America's Cup

I did an America's Cup activity with my group.

First, I read three texts and took all the main ideas and sorted them into the groups: Who? What? Where? When? Why? Then I had to watch videos to get more information and more ideas to put them on the slide.

After I got all of the main ideas I had to choose 20 words then take out the 6 most important ones. After I did that I had to make a summary using the 6 most important words that I chose.

Then I had to copy and paste the summary onto my evaluating slide under, What is the America's Cup about? Then I had to put in facts that I learnt then ask questions about the America's Cup.

This activity helped me learn more facts about the America's Cup. I hope New Zealand wins next year.

The Highway Rat

A visualisation is when you use your imagination to visualise a story and draw pictures to go with your visualisation.

It is important to visualise because when you do it helps you understand the story better.

The story The Highway Rat is about a rat who rides a horse stealing everyone's food who passes by.

Then he eats a pink cupcake that he found and he loved it so much he went to go find more.

When he couldn't find anymore pink cupcakes he tried to eat the duck but then the duck said he had a sister who had lots of yummy treats, but it was a lie and the Highway Rat got stuck in a cold dark cave.

Then the rat found his way out and left his stealing way behind and found a job at a cake shop.

My visualisation is different to my partners because she spent time drawing backgrounds but I didn't.

This is important so you can understand what a visualisation is.

AFL Practice

Today LS1 did AFL practice with our coaches Andre and Becs.

First Group A practised the skills that we learnt last week called Hand ball and Drop Punt.

Then our coach Becs, taught us some new tricks called a Tip off and a Muck.

To Tip off you need a person to throw the ball up  in the air and you and a person from the other team has to run jump while putting one of your knees in front of you and hitting the ball anywhere.

To do a Mark you need someone to hand ball the ball then you catch it by making a M with your hand, the other way to Mark the ball is to catch it and bring it up to your chest.

I like learning new skills about AFL so I can play with my friends when I go down to the park.

Place Value and Saying Numbers

Place value is a system that groups numbers based on their site.

The position of a digit determines its value. When we say numbers we group them within he same house. For example 15709 had fifteen thousands, Seven hundreds and Nine ones.

Understanding our base 10 place value system allows us to pronounce big numbers properly. It also allow us to identify numbers before and after.

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is a Maori term for a formal greetings.

Mihi Whakatau is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions and openings. It is undertaken by the Tangata whaenua (local inhabitants). The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspects to the place.

The Maunga (mountain), awa (river) and the (iwi) Tribe are generally used. Introducing Ingoa (name), Oku tipuna (ancestral place) and where you live
is important for the audience to understand the position of the speaker.

Manuhiri is the term used to describe or group the visitors that is being welcomed. It is important to end with a warm welcome so the visitors know that there is no hostility in the two groups being together.

Being respectful of the land, the people and the purpose of a visit will ensure a long lasting relationship and connections.

Print Design Rules

I learned about the Print Design Rules.

First Mr Wong taught us about the main aspects of the Print Design Rules, colour, layout, text, composition.

Next, I figured out which posters looked good and bad with my partners.

Last I reorganised a poster to make it look good.

I enjoyed using the Print Design Rules to make a poster.

Basic facts

I did a basic facts test to see how fast I was at my basic facts up to 5.

I was quite fast at my basic facts up to 5.

I did the Speed Demon challenge and got 100/100.

I will try to work on my speed and see if I can get faster at my basic facts to five.

Handwriting

Today I did some handwriting.

I did the whole alphabet lower case and upper case.

I need to try and make my handwriting tidier by slowing down.

I learnt how to write my letters from Aa to Zz as well as my special characters and numbers.

AFL Practice

On the field we practised skills for Australian Football League.

First Group A's coach Jack, showed us how to pass the ball by holding it as a dinner plate and hitting it with our fist.

Then he showed us how to kick the ball by holding it while making an M and then dropping it and kicking it on the x.

Then we had to use our passing skills to play Octopus.

Then we had to use our kicking skills and aim at coach Jack and Whaea Petra.

I liked learning new skills about AFL. I might go and play it after school on Friday.

The Three P's

LS1 learnt about the three P's in The Treaty of Waitangi and how they apply to our learning.

First Mr.Ogilvie introduced the 3 p's in the Treaty of Waitangi, they are Protection, Partnership, and Participation.

Then in groups we wrote  statements about the 3 p's in LS1.

LS1 then figured out that the 3 p's are all connected.

After that we used our group ideas and thought about how they connect to me.

I chose these three statements to help me with my learning. I need to work on participation and trying things I have not done before.

Culture Art

Today I went outside and got some materials to make a butterfly.
I used a red leaf, purple flower petals, green leaf, stems, and small sticks.
I learnt that if you just be creative you can make lots of things.
