Simon Says
They were as loud as an elephant. Today we went to the hall because there were visitors that came to do a performance for the school. First it was quiet, but then once they came in it was VERY loud. One of them was saying some words in Māori, another person was blowing into a conch shell. They came to tell us some facts about how the Māori people dance, have fun, and get ready for battle all in one. They also showed us a weapon that the Māori people used.
After they finished doing their performances we sang He Honore in return for their amazing performance. Then the Kapa haka boys did the All Black haka. Then they turned around so we could see them do the All Black haka.
Then we went outside and played ‘Simon Says’ in Māori with room 4 because we still had 30 more minutes before lunch time. The winners were Matheus and Riley. Then we played again because we had 15 more minutes left. It was a hard game to play, but it was fun.
After we finished playing ‘Simon Says’ in Māori, the guy who taught us how to play showed us a weapon that the Māori people used to attack. It was bitty, but it had a sharp end on it. It was kind of like a hook that you would use to catch fish. It was made out of wood.
I liked the performance a lot. Even if I couldn’t understand some of the Māori words that they said, it was really cool. I might even join the kapa haka group next year.
